What is Data Privacy Week?

Data Privacy Week is here this week. What does that mean for you?

Now more than ever, your data leaves behind a trail about you – your activity online, your personal information, and even your health information, such as how many steps you take.

The question becomes, how much can you control?

What is it?

Introduced by the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), the week runs from January 21-27 this year. In 2020, Data Privacy Day changed to Data Privacy Week, emphasizing the importance of taking control of your online privacy.

What Does It Mean For You?

Your data, your purchasing habits, your personal demographics are just the beginning. More critical assets, like credit card information or social security numbers, are also included. Family members and coworkers are acquiring more and more devices to carry out tasks, such as a tablet at work or a new smartwatch at home, you only create more outlets to breach.

You still have control. You can choose how much of your data is accessed by things like phone or computer applications, such as a third party app asking your for personal data like your location, or storing your credit card for future payments.

For more details on how to improve your privacy, visit NCA’s page for resources.
